Description
A planet that orbits too close to its star. Gravitational forces and extreme temperatures constantly warp the planets surface.Created using Maya and Photoshop.
Approximately 15 hrs.

still, there are some minor things that bug me. Maybe a more discreet lens flare would do the trick without distracting the attention from what's really important in the pic. The asteroid belt seems a bit too dark compared to the planet near it, and because of that, it looks out of place. The planet which is closer should have more detail than the other one; or you could get rid of the problem by making it darker, with only a ring of light at it's border, and that way you don't have the problem with the asteroids anymore

I would agree with you if the planet was centered on the sun, there would be no lense flare. Although the sun is off center and I wanted to create the 'diamond ring' effect that a Solar Eclipse gives.

The only thing that seems odd is the front planet.. It seems really close to the red one (in space terms), so wouldn't it be affected by the heat of the sun, too?
